What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Conduct quality reviews on coders to ensure accuracy and compliance with coding guidelines
- Analyze medical record documentation for compliance with official coding standards
- Maintain knowledge of applicable coding rules, regulations, and guidelines
- Stay updated on developments in medical records coding through educational programs and professional organizations
- Assist in ensuring the accuracy of abstracted coded data submitted to regulatory agencies
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Must be a graduate of a Health Information Management program or an approved Coding educational program
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) with four years of review/coding experience, or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) with six years of experience, or equivalent certifications with eight years of experience
- Must possess relevant certification (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, or CPC-H)
- Advanced knowledge in ICD-9-CM and CPT/HCPCS coding and medical terminology
- Must score a minimum of 85% on a pre-employment coding test
