This role is a key leadership role for the deodorants category R&D team. The role is responsible for setting the strategic direction for Deodorants packaging (plastic, non plastic and PC Plastic Commitments) & Aerosols including Future Non Contact products. The role holder will also be accountable for driving functional excellence across Packaging, including driving and landing value from a digital transformation agenda within the function.

This role is a key leadership role for the deodorants category R&D team. The role holder will also be accountable for driving functional excellence across Packaging, including driving and landing value from a digital transformation agenda within the function.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Setting and delivery of the overall strategic direction for Packaging (design engineering, materials (current, recycled, novel) including non plastic for Complex Assemblies, Aerosols, Whole Body formats and Future Formats for category.
- Define and deliver packaging and aerosol formulation roadmaps for key design cells beyond the scope of innovation using multivariate advanced approaches to enable development spaces to be defined.
- Drive understanding of current & future aerosol formulation spaces underpinned by multivariate insights and digital insight
- Ensuring excellent data quality for specifications and modelling requirements for Deodorants aerosols and packaging globally
- Deliver in-year OKRs as agreed for team and personal leadership contribution to the category
- Lead relevant External interfaces to deliver strategic objectives including Sustainability, Superiority and Savings across Packaging, Aerosol and Waste Management Industries.
- Delivery of outstanding packaging mixes fit to brand, consumer & key market needs - for all powder brands.
- Work closely with PC Design to deliver outstanding decoration & finish technology to enable premiumisation and competitiveness improvement
- Deliver novel technologies including digital programmes to advance year on year efficiency improvements of Packaging and Aerosol delivery in BG and BU teams - reducing routine tasks and replacing with digital alternatives
- Ensuring best practice & functional excellence across Deodorants Packaging globally, to enable outstanding packaging design, engineered robustly, to roll out at scale rapidly.
- Lead our Aerosol Centre of excellence, which develops future formula & packaging to meet strategic business objective; and defines & implements best practice for aerosol safety for R&D within Unilever globally.
- Drive Data & Digital across Packaging, through democratising tools & techniques which improve quality, efficiency & impact.
- Ensuring excellent data quality for specifications and modelling requirements for Deodorants aerosols and packaging globally
- Setting external agenda for key convertor relationships & technology roadmaps
- Leader of Personal Care R&D Plastics agenda ensuring robust tracking and future proofing of full Deo programme to deliver Net Zero and Plastic commitments.
- Senior member of the PLT actively supporting UL PLT agenda
- Deliver external presence in Packaging & Aerosol industry advancing the credibility of UL & Deo category
- Key member of the Deo category RDLT.
- Develop the next generation of Deo leaders leading from purpose, inspiring team motivation and passion, driving Equity, Diversity and Inclusion throughout the programme and in every aspect of the team's work.
- Manage team of ~25-35 people
ALL ABOUT YOU
- Science or Engineering related qualification and/or relevant experience within R&D
- Demonstrable functional understanding of Complex assembly plastic packaging end to end supply chain including PCR, aerosol packaging and formulation and non-plastic packaging materials and conversion
- Strong people leader with demonstrable high growth mindset delivering impact
- Preferably experience in Deo category
- Consistent track record of high performance and business delivery (innovation / technology delivery)
- Curiosity to develop and deliver world class technology
- Demonstrable ability to work at pace and uncertainty
- Experience of leading global programmes with multi-functional stakeholders
- Experience of leading global cross functional multi-disciplinary teams to deliver outstanding results including outside your direct line management scope
- Demonstrable ability to apply a strong strategic perspective and deal with complex requirements, setting priorities leading towards long term strategic intent
